TODAY'S CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY... PATTI PRAVO

Italian singer Patty Pravo was born 76 years ago as Nicoletta Strambelli in Venice, is divorced and has no children.

Patty started studying the piano as well as classic dancing at a very young age and when she was 10, she attended the National Institute of Music where she also took a 4-year course for an orchestra director.

In 1962, she left for London but returned back to her native Italy after just a couple of days and started performing in one of Rome’s most popular night clubs.  There she was noticed by a record producer and a some other Italian singers and in 1966 released her first single ‘Ragazzo Triste’ which went well on the Italian charts.

In the 2 years that followed, Patty released 2 other tracks namely ‘Se Perdo Te’ and the number one hit ‘La Bambola’, plus her first album which included several other successful songs.  The album that followed was equally lucrative and helped Pravo to increase her popularity.

In 1970, she participated in the San Remo Music Festival and sang ‘Una Spada Nel Cuore’ in duet with singer Little Tony, placing 5th.  During that decade, more albums were released and amongst the included tracks she had 2 major hits: ‘Pazza Idea’ and ‘Pensiero Stupendo’ which peaked to number one and number 2 respectively on the Italian charts.

More albums came out during the 80s, but did not reach the expected success as the previous ones, although there were some songs which fared well.  Patty once again took part in the San Remo Festival in 1987, without success, and 7 years later travelled to China to introduce Italian music to this country and even produced her next album there.

In 1997, Pravo had another big hit named ‘E Dimmi che non vuoi Morire’, with which she participated for the 5th time at the San Remo Festival and arriving in 8th place.

In the last 25 years, over 50 albums plus more that 20 singles were released.  Also, Patty took part 5 more times in the San Remo Festival.  Apart from music, Patty appeared in 6 movies and published 3 autobiographies.

During her long career, Pravo won over 20 awards, including a Telegatto and 3 Critics’.
