TODAY'S CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY... SHAKIN' STEVENS

English singer and songwriter Shakin’ Stevens was born 77 years ago as Michael Barratt in Cardiff, Wales, is presumably in a relationship and has 3 children.

During his teens, Michael created a rock and roll band with some school friends named ‘The Olympics’ and was its singer and frontman.  It changed its name twice: ‘The Cossacks’ and then ‘The Denims’.  Together they performed in local places but after a few years the group disbanded.  So Barratt decided to embark on a solo career and whilst he worked 2 jobs as a milkman and upholsterer, he gave weekend performances in pubs and clubs.

Michael then joined a rock ‘n’ roll band named Backbeats as the lead singer, which later changed its name to Shakin’ Stevens and the Sunsets.  Although they issued a number of albums and singles, however, they were not very successful.

In 1977, he performed in a musical called ‘Elvis!’ where he was given the main part as Elvis.  This led him to stardom in the 80s and early 90s, when he released various hits, some of which reached no 1 in the music charts.  These include ‘You Drive Me Crazy’. ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’, ‘Oh Julie’, ‘Green Door’, and ‘This Ole House’.  After releasing the single ‘Radio’ in 1992, Stevens took a 7-year break, after which he got back to touring and live performing in 1999 and the beginning of the 00s.

In the last 2 decades, Stevens released 3 studio, 11 compilation and 1 video albums, 3 Box Sets and 9 singles.  He has also won 4 awards.
